Breast implants are medical devices placed under the
breast tissue or breast muscle to either increase the breast size, reconstruct
the breast after a breast cancer trauma, and to correct congenital formal
errors. Implants are also used to correct or improve the outcome of a previous
surgery.
The FDA approves two common types of breast implants: saline filled (saline solution) and silicone gel filled. Although they both have a silicone outer shell, they vary in size, shell thickness, shell surface texture and shape. These implants can also be used in the breast augmentation (breast enlargement or "boob job") procedures, which ranked first in 2018’s most performed plastic surgeries.

How Does it Work?
Popularly known as a boob job, breast implants is one of the types of breast augmentation surgery. It’s one of the most popular plastic surgeries among women. The aim of this procedure is to make breasts bigger, improve symmetry, and proportion. There are 2 types of implants used in this procedure: silicone and saline. Between the two types of implants, silicone implants are the most popular because they offer a more natural look.

What Does a Breast
Implant Surgery Involve?
It takes between an hour or two to complete the breast
implant surgery –and it’s usually performed as an outpatient procedure.
Once you have decided to undergo a breast implant
surgery, we will plan and customize the procedure so as to suit your personal
preferences, needs, and the clinics’ practices. Although it can differ from one
patient to the other, there are four main stages involved in this procedure. To
give you an idea, here is the procedure’s step-by-step guide:
1. Administering Anesthesia
When performing this surgery, your surgeon will give you intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. This is done so that you don’t feel any sort of pain or discomfort during the surgery. In most cases, patients are asked to decide the type of anesthesia they prefer.
2. Making Incisions
Once the anesthesia kicks in, what follows is the incision making step. There are 3 different incision techniques that your surgeon can use. Your surgeon will help you decide the technique that best matches your anatomy and aesthetic goals. The three incision techniques are outlined below:
3. Inserting the implants
After the incisions are made, the next step is to insert the implants. There are 2 main options of placing implants, these are:
Your surgeon will use a placement type that is best to you, according to your body type, implant type and the desired size of the breast.
4. Closing the incisions
The final step of the surgery is to close the incisions. Your surgeon will either use stitches, skin adhesive or surgical tape to close the incision –this usually depends on the incision site. The treated area will then be bandaged.
Suppose your surgeon uses dissolvable stitches to close the incisions, expect them to be invisible within the next 6 to 8 weeks. But if the surgeon uses sutures that are not absorbable, they will be removed after 7 days.
Breast Implant Shapes
Breast implants come in 2 different shapes: round implants and teardrop implants.
Am I an Ideal
Candidate for Breast Implants?
You can qualify as a suitable candidate for a breast implant surgery if you have an overall good health. If you want to enlarge your breasts, this surgery is the best option for you –but they will not correct saggy or droopy breasts. In this case, you might need a Mastopexy or Breast Lift surgery, in addition to breast implants.

What Are the Main
Differences Between Fat Transfer and Breast Implants?
Breast implants do not require additional surgery in other parts of the body as in the fat graft procedure. The cost of breast augmentation surgery with implants is much lower than that of fat grafting. Finally, the implants can be easily removed, but it is more difficult to remove the fat after injection. The advantage of fat transfer is to get rid of the stubborn excess fat accumulated in certain parts of the patients' body.
