Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a common procedure to
remove excess fat, muscle and skin tissue from the upper and lower eyelids and
to stretch the areas that support these tissues. This procedure aims to correct
drooping upper and lower eyelids, eye bags caused by excessive fat around the
eyes, and to make the patient look younger and more energetic by getting rid of
their tired appearance.

How Does it Work?
Saggy eyelids can be caused by aging, and this can disrupt one’s vision. If you are one of those people whose eyelids are sagging, you should consider having blepharoplasty –as it is regarded as an effective remedy for sagging eyelids.

What does an
Eyelid Surgery Involve?
Blepharoplasty is a surgery that is performed when the patient is either under sedation, general or local anesthesia. If you decide
to have eyelid surgery, you are advised to strictly follow the pre-operation
instructions which will be given to you by your surgeon during the first
consultation.
Depending on the complexity of the surgery, eyelid
surgery can take 2 or more to complete. Once you have decided to undergo the
surgery, we will plan your whole trip and make sure that the whole procedure is
tailored in a way that matches your preferences, goals as well as the clinic’s
practices. Below are some of the stages you should expect when you decide to
have this procedure.
1. Final consultation with your
surgeon
When you arrive at the clinic, you will have a face-to-face consultation with your eyelid specialist surgeon. During this session you are expected to inform the surgeon about your medical record, allergies and if you’re currently taking any medication. Even after telling your surgeon about your medical record, it’s mandatory that you go through some medical tests. Afterward you will discuss the procedure in detail and if you are on the same page with your surgeon, he/she will make an illustration by drawing some marks on your face as he/she prepares you for the surgery.
2. Taking the anesthesia
When the test results are out and your surgeon is satisfied, you will be then given anaesthesia. Surgeons usually prefer local anaesthesia, but general anaesthesia is also an option.
3. Operation
Once you are anaesthetized, the surgeon will start the
procedure. For the lower eyelid surgery, your surgeon will make tiny incisions
– in predetermined areas – in careful manner that minimizes scarring. As an
example, the natural creases underneath the lower lids are used for discrete
incisions. Your surgeon then will remove surplus fat and skin through these
incisions and may also tighten sagging underlying muscles.
For the upper eyelid surgery, your surgeon will create
incisions in the natural upper lid creases after the anesthesia. Then the
surgeon will remove the surplus skin to eliminate the droopy effect of the
upper lids and any partial vision hindrance. Weak underlying muscles are
tightened at this stage, as well.
After the saggy skin is eliminated, the surgeon will lift
and reattach the remaining skin for a more youthful appearance in the upper
eyelids. After the surgery is terminated, the surgeon will close your incisions
with sutures.
